Reflecting on What You Have Learned and Skills You Have Developed
Congratulations on completing approximately half of your professional learning journey with Dr. Fisher and close reading!
On Day 17, Dr. Fisher stresses the importance of reflecting on your own practice and the skills you have developed to guide students to a deeper understanding of complex text. As Dr. Fisher explains, “I remember starting my teaching of close reading and writing some of my early reflections. One of my reflections was that students didn’t seem to be getting any better at close reading. And when I asked my students to reflect on it, they were feeling very, very proud of reading very complex text.”
We would greatly appreciate your honest feedback. Please complete this mid-point survey so Dr. Fisher and Achieve3000 can learn about your experience with the Close Reading Series to date.
Review any notes and reflections from the past sessions.
Next, reflect on your learning process, capturing your reflections in the Learning Log. Consider using the following questions to guide your reflection:
Ask your students to reflect on their learning during the close reading process. Have them focus on what is working well and one area where they need more support. Use this information to inform your next steps and teaching points.
This log can be used to capture new learnings as you develop close reading techniques.
