The Science of Reading

Oct. 27, 2021 • Dr. Doug Fisher

Join us for a very special three-part webinar as Dr. Douglas Fisher, Dr. Julie Morrow, and Chuck Poole take a deep dive into the science, best practices, and rewards of reading.

PART 1: The Skill, Will, and Thrill of Comprehension

Dr. Fisher will start things off with a keynote address entitled The Skill, Will, and Thrill of Comprehension. Dr. Fisher believes literacy instruction needs to go beyond the basic skills of reading to ensure that students learn to read and write well. He discusses how educators can add the will and the thrill.

PART 2: A Reading Think Tank

Dr. Morrow will moderate a timely conversation about reading instruction—what works, what doesn’t work, and how we can draw on proven instructional strategies and tools to transform all of our students, even those who struggle the most, from striving readers into skilled readers.

PART 3: The Science of Reading

There’s a huge body of research, referred to as “the science of reading,” that can guide educators on how to teach literacy effectively, support student growth, and improve outcomes. Chuck Poole will discuss how we can move from research on the page to successful instruction in our classroom
