The COVID-19 Delta variant surging through the country is thrusting school districts and education companies back into territory they’ve become all too familiar with over the last 18 months — a state of limbo — even as the K-12 community continues its push toward in-person school reopening.

In recent weeks, as infections, hospitalizations, and deaths have risen nationwide and mask mandates have returned in some states and cities, the highly infectious strain of the coronavirus has led school districts — and the education companies serving them — to fine-tune their communication and contingency planning for the upcoming school year.
