Achieve3000 Announces New Leadership

Dec 12, 2018

Lakewood, NJ, December 12, 2018 – Achieve3000, the leader in differentiated literacy instruction, announced that Remington (Rem) Fairlamb has joined the organization as senior vice president of sales, and Paul Labay has joined as senior vice president of product management. Additionally, Nick Bates has been promoted to chief financial officer.

“I am thrilled to have Rem, Paul and Nick bring their vitality to our leadership team,” said Stuart Udell, CEO of Achieve3000. “We are moving fast on a path to strategic growth, and all three have the deep leadership experience in the ed tech sector to get us there. Rem is well known in the industry for his ability to impact substantial sales growth by combining strong sales development skills with a powerful go-to-market strategy. And I know Paul as a key resource for bringing complex projects to completion. This is an essential skill at Achieve3000, as we are both acquiring and rapidly evolving our product set and capabilities. Also, I am pleased to have Nick step up to the helm of our finance team after operating as an important leader in re-engineering our financial operations and skillfully using data to drive decision-making.”

Fairlamb brings 20 years of leadership expertise in the ed tech sector to his new position, most recently as vice president of sales at Frontline Education. Prior to Frontline, he served as vice president of sales at Teachscape, where he helped quadruple sales during his tenure. Fairlamb also served as senior vice president of sales and marketing at Kaplan K-12 Learning Services, where he grew the business fivefold in five years.

“I am excited to join this company with great products and volumes of efficacy data demonstrating positive literacy growth for kids,” Fairlamb said. “Achieve3000 has unique capabilities relative to our competitors, and I’m looking forward to leading a team into schools and district buildings to tell that story. I know we have a winning formula, and I am excited to drive more growth for the company.”

Labay has more than 20 years of experience in the education marketplace focused on designing, developing, launching and maintaining educational technology solutions. Labay joined Achieve3000 from Playa Consulting LLC, which he founded, and where he supported digital product development for clients such as Sundance.org, LearningMate, Oxford University Press and CredSpark. From 2011 to 2017, Labay served as senior vice president of the digital delivery team for Wiley’s Global Education (GE) business. He also spent several years at Kaplan Test Prep in numerous roles, including the founding and management of Kaplan’s e-learning team for the test prep division.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to work with the dynamic team here at Achieve3000 to help our customers – students, parents, teachers and administrators – reach their academic and career goals,” Labay said. “I am confident my team and I will work together to strengthen Achieve3000’s market-leading position and continue to delight our customers.”

Bates has extensive experience in both public and private companies, with broad expertise including strategic planning, M&A and building metrics-focused cultures. He joined Achieve3000 as senior vice president of finance in August 2018, coming from Liberty Tax Service, where he most recently served as CFO. Prior to that, he spent more than five years at Catapult Learning, advancing to CFO. Bates succeeds Mike Vantusko in this role at Achieve3000; Vantusko has been fulfilling the position as a consultant since November 2017.

“I am happy to return to the education industry, especially to work on a solution that has proven to accelerate literacy growth for millions of students,” Bates said. “In addition to leveraging my prior experience, I look forward to instilling more data-driven science into Achieve3000’s decision-making and core processes.”
