Students requiring intervention services often lose out on grade-level content and instruction to bolster their foundational and basic reading skills. This leaves a gap in their content knowledge and academic vocabulary growth. With the new assessments more heavily focused on nonfiction content in the areas of science and social studies, a solution is needed that does not preclude content-area instruction.
