Focus on Response to Intervention

Students just love the articles and are motivated by the nonfiction, high interest content. We use the program daily in each of our content classes as an intervention and acceleration tool.

Bringing It All Together

As principal of Bayard Middle School, I implemented Achieve3000 in June of 2010 to our special education students attending summer school. The purpose was to determine if we could implement this strategy school-wide as a Tier III Rtl intervention. Achieve3000 worked so well during the summer pilot that we purchased the program for the entire special education program. We have seen our students increase their reading levels two and three years within a six month period of time.

All of our content teachers have implemented Achieve3000 to help improve reading, comprehension, writing, and marking the text skills. The level of support we have received from the entire Achieve3000 staff has been extremely essential to the training of our staff and successful implementation of the program here at Bayard Middle School. The program is easy to operate with a 95% success rate when implemented with fidelity. Each staff member, trained on the program, has been complimentary of the company’s approach to literacy both academically and as a reading for pleasure opportunity for students. Our teachers appreciate the way the program allows them to engage in whole class discussions with their students and pull in cross curricula learning opportunities.

Students just love the articles and are motivated by the nonfiction, high interest content. We use the program daily in each of our content classes as an intervention and acceleration tool. It allow us to support those students that are reading two or more grade levels below while providing the same content to all students at their reading level. Over the past three years, Achieve3000 has demonstrated their commitment to ensuring that the program and services meet the needs of our students, teachers, and administrators. Their approach to increasing literacy skills for all students is worth the investment and I highly recommend them.
